Niobium-added titanium oxide is a promising candidate as substitute carbon support for cathodes of PEFCs. Nb-added TiO2 can act platinum nanoparticles to enhance the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity and durability under acidic conditions. supports with desired surface area (10–130 m2 g−1) conductivity (10−7–10−2 S cm−1) were prepared by changing amount Nb heat treatment First, we conducted systematic investigation changes in niobium addition, heat-treatment temperature, time pure hydrogen atmosphere reveal physicochemical factors that govern conductivity. Finally, successfully proposed procedure prepare highly durable controlling hydrogen. The charges double layer almost unchanged after 5000 cycles an accelerated test (ADT).

Nano-structured ternary niobium titanium nitrides as durable non-carbon supports for oxygen reduction reaction.
A novel, highly stable, non-carbon support system for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) has been discovered in the form of nano-structured (NbxTi1-x)Ns (x = 0.25 and 0.5). Template-free, solid-solid separation synthetic approaches have been used for preparing these materials. The (NbxTi1-x)N materials have high specific surface area and better electronic conductivity than carbon-based supports.
